I wish I had acquired all of the surplus re imports I could afford when they were plentiful and cheap. Even M2 variants could have been field upgrades. Could have been in the field or at an arsenal. Improved replacement parts would indicate it was upgraded somewhere in the loop of service. So having mismatched parts doesnt necessarily point to an arsenal rebuild. When one contractor ran short on parts they simply bought from others. There were hundreds of sub contractors that small parts were farmed out to. There were about ten main contractors that produced the finished rifle. Non of the contractors made all parts in house. You gotta remember there were around 6 million made. Some upgrades went with the full round later bolt like used on M2. Straight faced slide, early magazine catch, hammer spring, fold down rear sight, and flat style bolt. The safety is push button type, instead of rotary. The stock is also small frame without all of the extra bulk forward of the magazine. It has the small narrow early style front band that has no provision for bayonet. A nice piece of history with all first issue original parts. ![]() If someone didnt know any different, would assume it was an arsenal rebuild or imported back in the country. They only manufactured a total of four parts in house, and everything else was purchased outside. It saw action in Okinawa, came home then retired. I have only one all original issued once model carbine. Lots of parts were used between manufacturers. ![]()
